The Problem

As part of supporting Expedia Group’s partner websites, I worked across UX, UI, and visual design to help shape the core web experiences used by travel partners around the world. The platform delivers product updates, educational resources, and success stories that help recruit hotels and travel businesses and to help grow their business through Expedia’s ecosystem.

My role focused on designing scalable page templates and content frameworks that could support a wide range of marketing and editorial needs. In addition to creating the foundational UX and visual patterns, I also designed and refined individual pages as the templates were put into use, ensuring each experience remained engaging, clear, and aligned with the broader design system.

Considerations

Design decisions were shaped by the need to balance scalability, flexibility, and clarity across a growing partner content platform.

Templates needed to support a wide range of content types, from product updates to long-form success stories, while remaining easy for marketing teams to publish through the CMS. Maintaining consistent visual hierarchy, readability, and alignment with the design system was critical as the site expanded.

Criteria

Templates were designed to deliver clear information hierarchy, modular components, and strong visual storytelling.

Each page needed to be easily scannable, adaptable to different content needs, and compatible with CMS publishing workflows. Reusable UI patterns ensured consistency across the platform while enabling faster content production.

Focus area

My role spanned UX, UI, and visual design, focusing on both foundational template creation and real-world implementation. I designed page structures, modular components, and visual layouts that could scale across the partner website. As templates were adopted, I collaborated closely with digital operations, content writers, marketers, developers, and stakeholders to design individual pages, refine layouts with real content, and ensure designs translated effectively into production.

Expedia Group Partner Blog

As part of launching a redesigned partner website for Expedia Group, we introduced a new blog platform designed to deliver product updates, industry insights, and educational resources for travel partners. Because the platform was built from the ground up, we needed a scalable editorial framework that could support a wide range of content from simple announcements to data-driven thought leadership while maintaining a consistent experience.

Key design challenges included:

Flexibility: Editors needed the ability to create varied content layouts without custom design support.

Consistency: The blog needed to align with the broader partner site design system.

Scalability: Templates had to support hundreds of future articles without becoming overly complex.

Engagement: Articles should encourage deeper exploration through related content and calls to action.

To balance flexibility and simplicity, we designed a two-tier template.

Basic Template — Editorial Readability

The basic template provides a clean layout optimized for long-form reading. The intent was for designers to use this as their starting point for most blog posts.

Key components include:

  • Article hero with title, summary, and author

  • Featured media

  • Standard editorial content formatting

  • Inline images

  • Calls-to-action

  • Author bio

  • Tags and sharing

  • Recommended articles

  • Feedback prompt

This layout handles the majority of blog posts while maintaining a clear reading experience.

Advanced Template — Modular Content

For more complex articles, we created a library of optional content modules that authors and designers can add within the CMS.

Modules include:

  • Statistic highlight blocks

  • Data visualization sections

  • Image + text split layouts

  • Pull quotes and key insights

  • Video embeds

  • Feature or resource grids

  • Multiple CTA placements

These modules enable richer storytelling without requiring custom page design.

Design System Integration

Templates were built using the partner site’s design system to ensure consistency and scalability.

Each module was designed as a reusable component, enabling:

  • Consistent visual hierarchy

  • Faster development

  • Predictable responsive behavior

  • Scalable content creation

Outcome

The template system established a scalable foundation for the new partner blog.

Consistent editorial experience: Clear hierarchy supports long-form readability.

Flexible storytelling: Modular components support research, marketing, and educational content.

Scalable publishing: Editors can build complex articles with minimal design or engineering support.

Key Takeaway

Designing for editorial platforms requires balancing structure and flexibility. By introducing a modular template system, we created a framework that supports diverse content while maintaining a cohesive and scalable product experience.

Expedia Group Partner Success Stories

As feature of the partner facing Expedia Group website, we introduced a Partner Success Story to showcase how hospitality partners grow their business using Expedia’s platform. These stories highlight measurable outcomes, such as increased bookings or expanded international reach, while giving other partners practical insights they can apply to their own businesses.

The goal was to create a repeatable template that combines storytelling, visual engagement, and data-driven results, allowing marketing and editorial teams to showcase the compelling tool and resources available to Expedia Group partners.

The partner website needed a dedicated way to highlight real-world partner success. These stories serve both marketing and educational purposes, helping demonstrate the value of Expedia’s platform while sharing actionable insights with other travel partners.

The design needed to address several challenges:

Communicating impact quickly: Readers should be able to immediately understand the results achieved by the partner.

Balancing storytelling and data: The page needed to combine narrative storytelling with key performance metrics.

Maintaining engagement across long-form content: Success stories often include detailed background and strategy explanations, requiring a layout that remains visually engaging.

Supporting scalable publishing: Marketing teams needed a repeatable template that could be used across many partner stories.

Approach

To address these needs, I designed a modular success story template built around a clear narrative structure: introduction, challenge, solution, and results.

The approach focused on three principles:

Lead with outcomes: Surface the most important results early in the page so readers immediately understand the impact.

Support storytelling with visuals: Use images, quotes, and layout variations to keep long-form content engaging.

Build reusable components: Create flexible modules that allow editors to assemble stories in the CMS without requiring new layouts.

This framework ensures each story feels engaging while remaining consistent across the platform.

01 Process

Design

The template is organized into several key sections that guide readers through the partner’s journey.

Hero Section: The page opens with a hero area introducing the partner and the key outcome of the story. This section quickly establishes who the partner is and what success they achieved.

Key Results: A row of data highlight cards surfaces the most important performance metrics from the story. These metrics provide an immediate understanding of the business impact before readers dive into the full story.

Story Sections: The core narrative is structured into clear sections:

  1. Their Story: Provides background about the partner and the challenges they faced.

  2. Their Solution: Explains the strategies or Expedia tools used to address those challenges.

  3. Ongoing Success: Highlights the results and continued growth after adopting those strategies.

This structure helps readers easily follow the progression from problem to solution to measurable outcomes.

Visual Content: To maintain engagement throughout longer content, the template includes several visual modules to break up the text and reinforce key moments in the story. This includes featured images, graphical visual expression, engaging full width photography, pull quotes and testimonial blocks.

Partner Quote: A featured quote from the partner provides a personal perspective on their experience. It adds authenticity and strengthens the credibility of the story.

Learn how The Walk Disney World Swan and Dolphin resorts improved their bookings by using Expedia Group’s travel package deals, which bundle multiple travel elements, such as flights and hotel stays, into one booking. These packages help properties attract travelers who are planning full trips and are often higher-value guests.

Key points

1. Packages attract higher-value travelers
Travelers booking packages tend to be more valuable for hotels. They often stay longer, spend more per day, and are more likely to travel internationally compared with travelers booking only a hotel.

2. Bundled deals encourage bookings
By combining flights, hotels, or car rentals into a single discounted booking, packages make trip planning easier and more appealing for travelers, which can help properties increase demand.

3. Increased visibility through Expedia’s platform
Hotels that participate in package deals gain access to Expedia’s global marketplace and marketing channels, allowing them to reach more travelers searching for complete trip options.

02 example

The Partner Success Story template established a scalable way to share real-world partner achievements across the new platform.

  • Clear communication of impact: Prominent data highlights help readers quickly understand measurable outcomes.

  • Engaging long-form storytelling: Visual modules and structured sections keep readers engaged throughout the narrative.

  • Consistent publishing framework: Editors can produce new stories using the same modular template without custom design work.

  • Stronger partner credibility: Real-world stories and testimonials reinforce trust in the platform and its capabilities.

Key Takeaway

Designing effective case study content requires balancing data, narrative, and visual storytelling. By creating a modular success story template, we enabled teams to consistently showcase partner achievements while maintaining a scalable and engaging user experience.
